Tesla Will Operate Public Megachargers at Three New California Truck Depots

Tesla is about to run public Megacharging sites at three new electric-truck depots it does not own.

The locations are part of a four-depot California expansion from Forum Mobility that will add 30 megawatts of heavy-duty charging capacity. One of those depots already has contracted demand associated with more than 330 Tesla Semis.

This is more than another pin on a charging map. It is a practical model for taking the Semi beyond private fleet yards and putting megawatt-class charging where working trucks already move.

Forum Mobility says Tesla will operate the public Megacharging sites at FM Francis in Ontario and at FM Adeline and FM Coliseum in Oakland.

A fourth project, FM Santa Fe in Rancho Dominguez, will serve commercial carriers through Forum’s own depot network. Together, the four projects span Northern and Southern California and combine Tesla’s Megawatt Charging System hardware with conventional CCS charging ports.

The layout is built around freight operations rather than passenger-car habits. Pull-through lanes will let drivers charge without dropping their trailers, while Forum says the MCS equipment can add as much as 60 percent of range in about 30 minutes.

Forum reports 25 carrier customers with contracted capacity. Once the current construction is counted, it says more than 40 MW of CCS and MCS truck charging will be online or under development across its network.

The operating arrangement is the part worth watching. Forum is developing the sites and assembling the fleet demand, but Tesla will have a direct role in the public charging experience at three of them.

That gives Tesla a way to grow the Semi’s usable network without buying and developing every freight property itself. It also gives Forum access to charging hardware designed around the truck that accounts for its largest disclosed block of vehicle commitments.

The sites will not be Tesla-only truck yards. Forum says the new capacity will remain open to commercial carriers, and the inclusion of CCS ports means fleets operating other electric Class 8 trucks can use the same depot network.

Investing.com carries Reuters’ independent confirmation of the three Tesla-operated locations, the 30 MW expansion and the commitment tied to more than 330 Tesla Semis at FM Santa Fe.

The report also confirms that Forum has already added two Tesla MCS Megachargers at FM Harbor in the Port of Long Beach. That depot has operated since December 2024 with 44 CCS charging ports and 9 MW of total capacity.

The buildout starts from existing infrastructure. Forum already has a live port depot, two Tesla megawatt chargers installed there and a carrier base using its charging-and-leasing model.

Reuters also places the California buildout against Tesla’s plan to broaden Semi availability beyond North America, with a European launch planned for next year. A truck rollout on that scale needs repeatable charging at ports, logistics hubs and freight corridors far beyond a handful of anchor-customer facilities.

Tesla Charging supplied the clearest current look at the hardware behind that expansion. The company says its first pre-assembled Megachargers have been deployed, with each unit using one V4 cabinet to feed two charging posts.

Each post can deliver up to 1.2 MW. Pre-assembling that equipment turns a complicated charging project into a more repeatable installation package, which matters if Tesla intends to support Semi routes faster than traditional site-by-site construction would allow.

The official post shows that the hardware is no longer just a rendering or a specification sheet. Finished units are moving into the field as the Semi program approaches a broader production and customer ramp.

The 330-plus figure needs careful wording. Forum describes it as contracted fleet offtake or customer reservations connected to Tesla Semis at FM Santa Fe.

It is a strong demand signal, but it does not mean 330 finished trucks have already been delivered.

What has been committed is enough demand to shape the depot around the Semi while leaving the site open to other commercial users. That gives the project a large anchor fleet without turning it into a closed private yard.

Forum says it is already planning another wave of depots beyond these four, including additional California sites and projects in Las Vegas, Phoenix, Houston, Dallas, Seattle-Tacoma and Chicago.

Not every one of those future locations is promised as a Tesla-operated Megacharging site. Still, the California agreement offers a template: a charging developer secures land, power and carrier demand, while Tesla supplies and operates the high-power equipment its truck needs.

The Semi has never been only a truck problem. It is also a depot, utility-interconnection and route-planning problem.

Three public Tesla-operated sites amount to a start, not a nationwide network. The combination of 30 MW in new freight charging, more than 330 truck commitments and repeatable 1.2 MW hardware is one of the clearest signs yet that the surrounding system is starting to catch up with the vehicle.
