Starlink Is Going on the New Air Force One, and President Trump Made Sure Everyone Knew

President Trump showed off the new interim Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews on June 19, and the detail that caught our attention had nothing to do with the paint job.

He named Starlink.

Standing in front of the Qatar-gifted Boeing 747-8, Trump described the aircraft’s communications systems as the highest level and specifically called out SpaceX Starlink as part of the package. He also predicted his friend Elon Musk would be very happy about it.

That is a notable moment for SpaceX. Putting Starlink hardware on the most recognizable aircraft on the planet is about as visible an endorsement as a connectivity provider can get.

Teslarati reported on the unveiling and framed it around the SpaceX angle, noting that Trump described the upgraded 747-8 as an interim Air Force One while the delayed VC-25B replacement jets are still pending.

The outlet pegged the aircraft’s value around $400 million and described it as modified for presidential use, a bridge meant to keep things moving until Boeing delivers the next-generation planes.

Teslarati also placed the moment inside Starlink’s broader expansion into high-profile aviation and government connectivity. A presidential aircraft is a different kind of customer than a regional airline or a remote rural household.

Starlink is not being described as the only secure layer onboard. Trump pointed to multiple communications systems, with Starlink named as one piece of a larger suite.

Still, getting named at all on this platform says something about how far the service has come.

The aircraft itself is worth a look. The New York Post reported that Trump thanked Qatar for donating the jet and described the 747-8 as a palace in the sky.

The Post said the plane is valued around $400 million and runs about 18 feet longer than the older long-haul Air Force One aircraft, with a wider wingspan, a wider cabin, and the red, white, and blue look President Trump wanted.

Those older jumbo jets date back to the George H.W. Bush era, and a smaller Air Force One aircraft remains available for regional travel.

The new jet is being prepared for future foreign and domestic presidential trips, with possible ceremonial flyovers after the aircraft moves through its modification process.

The Post also framed the aircraft as a bridge while the delayed Boeing replacement planes remain unfinished, which is the practical reason this unusual interim aircraft is getting attention now.

That context keeps the Starlink mention from feeling like a throwaway line. The aircraft has to be converted into a working presidential transport platform, and the communications suite is one of the places where SpaceX’s Starlink name surfaced publicly.

The Post also noted the controversy. Critics raised national-security and foreign-gift concerns about converting a Qatar-donated aircraft, while Trump defended it as a practical bridge given how far behind the Boeing replacements have fallen.

A second short clip kept the focus on the simple tech headline: Starlink is now part of the Air Force One conversation.

For SpaceX watchers, the politics are background noise. The headline is that Starlink keeps landing in places that would have seemed unlikely a few years ago, and now that list includes the president’s plane.

Whether Musk is actually very happy about it, only he can say. But a Starlink antenna riding on Air Force One is a quiet reminder of how fast this company has moved from launchpad to everywhere.
